In my opinion, the MiterSet tool is the easiest to use, most accurate way to set up miter angles for cutting segments on the table saw. No more hours spent in calibration. No more fixing "gaposis". Click here to visit miterset.com and learn all about it. Now Rockler has a competing product and I'm using it as well. It'll be interesting to compare them,

Designing segmented turnings is a lot easier using AutoBowl.

With this function, just the outer dimensions of the desired object are required. I'll show you how simple by way of this simple globular bowl.

Easier Segmented Bowl Design

Now here are the steps:

  • Draw the outer walls of the bowl.
  • Draw the inner walls if you need them; they're not required. You do need, however, to decide how thick the walls should be; .5" in our case.
  • Draw horizontal lines to mark the layer boundaries, in this case .75" spacing.
  • Measure off the diameter of the bowl at each layer boundary, including the bottom, 3, 4.33, 4.9, etc.
  • Transfer these measurements into the Segmented Project Planner.
  • Exercise the AutoBowl function with the wall thickness set to .5.
